About Us

Robert Johnstone was a Scottish Engineer who came to South Africa, originally, to set up milking parlours and established Johnstone, in Port Shepstone, in 1928 as a GM car dealer and petrol station.

Their Kokstad branch was opened in approximately 1939 and was originally situated in Main Street on the side of the current FNB. There were also branches in Margate and Matatiele around that time.

The current owner, Dave, joined his father in 1972 and bought the business in 1985 as Johnstone Delta. When GM re-entered South Africa, in 2004, the business became Johnstone’s Kokstad. His son, Mark, is the current Sales Manager at the dealership.

Johnstone’s Kokstad is a family business with the view to supply and support the local community with the most professional service possible. Over the last few years, we have obtained many accolades including Dealership of the Year 2009, Dealership Honours 2010, New Vehicle Sales Honours 2009 & 2010, Parts Management Honours 2009, Service Management Honours 2007 and Top GMSA Financial Dealer 2010.

With the upgrade to the dealership in 2007, we moved to our new modern premises in Hope street, with a very spacious showroom, top class workshop facility and waiting room (Wi-Fi enabled) for our customers, additional parking and great visibility, we feel we offer the best we can for our customers.
